Cathy and Lily's first day as students.
Sep. 10th, 2007 04:31 am (UTC)
The first day of classes wore away the girls’ initial displeasure of being Sorted into different Houses. Badger and Eagle knew the castle better in their first year than most seventh years and chalked it up to the time during the Third War that they had spent exploring corridors while their parents fought useless battles.

They decided as they sprawled out on the grass beneath an old beech tree that being a student was completely different from being a guest at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Catherine stretched out and thumbed through her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. “I can’t believe Professor Potter gave homework on the first day.”

“I blame you. You’re his sister.” Lily pointed out as she put the end of her quill in her mouth.

“You’re his daughter.” Cathy argued with an amused smile.

So far they were half way through the day and the pair had opted to take their lunch to go so that they might enjoy the afternoon sunshine and complete a bit of homework before they had to rush off to their next class.

Lily sat up and smoothed her Ravenclaw robes and looked to the Hufflepuff girl near her. “What have you got next, huh?”

“Um.” Cathy moved to get her schedule. “I finish off with Potions – Oh! With the Ravenclaws. We’ll end together.”

Lily beamed. “Great! And don’t forget, we have tea with Hagrid on Friday afternoon.”

Catherine smiled and both girls turned as the bells from the school tolled, signaling the end of lunch. Wide-eyed they turned to one another and rose up to make a mad dash for the dungeons.

They made it just in time, sliding into their seats and smiling as they caught their breath. This was going to be an amazing year, they silently decided as blue eyes met brown.

Harry takes Catherine to Diagon Alley.

Three up. Two across. Tap. Tap. Tap.

Harry watched his small sister how to reveal the entrance to Diagon Alley, holding her up as her small hand clutched his wand, guided by his own hand. The look in Catherine’s blue eyes as the archway materialized was worth the momentary discomfort of having his wand in hands other than his own and he settled the child back on the ground, taking up her hand in his.

“Welcome,” said Harry, “to Diagon Alley.”

Catherine, who had been raised with Muggles despite her mother having had been a witch, had never been to Diagon Alley and her big brother felt a little bit honored that he could be the one to share it with her. He recalled his own first trip with Hagrid and he smiled from ear to ear as the dark haired girl bounced up on her toes.

“Oh! Oh! Oh! Harry!”

“Come on, I’ve got to pick up a few things for my classroom and then we’ll stop by Florean Fortescue’s for sundaes. We’ll load them down with chocolate sauce and marshmallows.” Harry promised. “And after we’ve finished we’ll walk all around.”

And they did. Harry handled his business quickly and spent the rest of the afternoon letting Cathy lead him around with an energetic skip in her step. By the time they left and returned to the school they were laden down with bags and bags of purchases ranging from sweets to books to toys to a small broomstick that Harry swore to teach his sister to fly.

The sparkle in her eyes hadn’t left.

She reminded Harry of himself sometimes.
